Understanding the Difference:

Cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery are often used interchangeably, but they are distinct. Cosmetic procedures aim to change or improve the appearance of normal, healthy structures of the body, enhancing self-esteem. On the other hand, plastic surgery is a specialized field that requires extensive training and is performed to improve function or repair appearance impaired by congenital defects, disease, or trauma.

Plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and general practitioners are not specifically trained in cosmetic surgery. Additional training is required to be competent in aesthetic cosmetic procedures. The Australasian College of Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine (ACCSM) is the only recognized body that acknowledges the training and experience of practitioners. The College includes plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and general practitioners on its register.

Choosing the Right Practitioner for You:

When selecting a medical cosmetic doctor or surgeon, it’s essential to consider their relevant education, training, experience, and proven competence in the specific procedure you are considering. Don’t hesitate to ask tough questions to ensure you make an informed decision.

At Aesthetica, we want to get to know you so we can honestly advise and offer options to address your concerns.
We conduct extensive medical history assessments and, if necessary, organize further tests to ensure your well-being and suitability for the procedure and recovery. We recognize that your body and skin are unique, and we work closely with you to understand and appreciate your concerns. This ensures that your options for surgery, medical procedures, or non-surgical treatment plans are tailored specifically to your needs.
