What Does Blepharoplasty Address?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses changes in the upper or lower eyelids. Treatment may involve the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on individual anatomy and concerns identified during consultation.

Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery

Upper Blepharoplasty
Involves a fine incision within the natural crease of the eyelid. Excess skin and, where appropriate, small amounts of fat may be removed or repositioned — reducing heaviness while maintaining your natural eye shape and expression.
Lower Blepharoplasty
May involve removal or repositioning of fat and skin to smooth and firm the under-eye area. Incisions are typically placed just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid (a transconjunctival approach), depending on your anatomy.
Your Consultation
Your journey begins with a personal consultation at Aesthetica Image Centre in Armadale, Melbourne. At your initial consultation, we will:

Under current AHPRA guidelines for cosmetic surgery, a valid referral is required before your consultation, and a minimum seven-day cooling-off period applies between your consultation and booking a surgical date. As part of this process, all patients are screened for underlying psychological factors, including body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), to help ensure surgery is the right and safe choice for you.
Procedure Overview
Each blepharoplasty procedure is performed at Chelsea Day Hospital or Cremorne Private Day Hospital. A typical procedure day may include review of your treatment plan, anaesthesia or sedation as advised, carefully placed incisions within natural eyelid creases or along the lash line, and removal or repositioning of tissue as discussed during consultation.
Fine sutures are used to support healing and help minimise visible scarring. Procedure duration varies depending on whether the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both are being treated.

Your Recovery
Recovery can vary between individuals, depending on the extent of the procedure and your body's natural healing response. Here is what you can expect following your procedure.
- Day 1 — In some cases, swelling
- Day 2/3 — Bruising begins to appear
- Day 7 — Stitches removed
- Day 7–10 — Bruising begins to subside
- Day 14 — Suture line begins to heal and fade
