May not be suitable if you are currently pregnant, have untreated underlying venous disease, or are seeking a guaranteed cosmetic outcome.

Visible veins on the face or legs are common, and may develop due to genetics, pregnancy, hormonal changes, ageing, prolonged standing or sun exposure. While many visible veins are medically harmless, their appearance or associated symptoms can understandably cause concern.

At Aesthetica Image Centre, vein treatments begin with a comprehensive medical assessment to confirm suitability and rule out underlying venous insufficiency. Not all veins are appropriate for in-clinic treatment — where needed, we recommend further investigation or specialist referral.

Every treatment plan is conservative, patient-focused, and built around your individual anatomy and concerns.

Understanding Your Veins

Different Types of Veins

Treatment depends on vein size, depth, location and overall venous health — assessment comes first.

Facial Veins

Small red or blue veins can appear on the nose, cheeks or chin. Because facial skin is delicate, treatment needs careful evaluation — light-based therapy may be suitable in selected cases depending on vein depth, size and skin type.

Spider Veins

Fine red, purple or blue veins commonly seen on the legs, often treated for cosmetic reasons though occasionally linked to mild symptoms. Treatment typically involves sclerotherapy or laser therapy following consultation.

Varicose Veins

Larger, raised veins that may cause aching, heaviness or swelling, sometimes associated with underlying venous insufficiency. May require ultrasound assessment or specialist referral before treatment.

Your Options

Vein Treatment Options

Sclerotherapy

A widely used medical treatment for selected spider veins and some small varicose veins. A specialised solution is injected into the targeted vein, causing it to close and gradually fade. Multiple sessions may be recommended.

Laser & IPL

Targeted light energy treats superficial veins, particularly fine facial veins and small spider veins. Suitability depends on vein depth, location and skin type, assessed individually.

Ultrasound-Guided Assessment

For larger or symptomatic veins, ultrasound may be used to evaluate venous function and guide safe, appropriate treatment planning — with vascular specialist referral where needed.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Options may include sclerotherapy, laser/IPL therapy, ultrasound-guided treatment, or other medical procedures depending on the type, size and location of the vein. A consultation is required to determine the most suitable approach for you.

Not everyone. Your medical history, vein characteristics and individual assessment determine whether treatment is appropriate and safe.

It may cause mild discomfort, similar to a pinprick, which usually resolves quickly. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well.

Treated veins gradually fade over several weeks to months. Multiple sessions may be required depending on the type and severity of the veins.

For larger varicose veins, options such as ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) or radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are usually considered — your practitioner will advise on the most appropriate option for your condition.

This depends on the vein type, size and your individual response to treatment. Many patients require 1–3 sessions for optimal results.

Costs vary depending on the treatment type and area being treated. During your consultation, we'll provide a personalised treatment plan and estimate based on your needs.

Depending on the type of veins, a Medicare rebate may apply — we'll discuss this during your consultation. Cosmetic procedures are usually self-funded.
