Your Options

Your Breast Enhancement Treatment Pathway

Breast procedures may involve different approaches depending on your anatomy, skin quality and goals.

  • Breast Implants — may be considered to increase volume and improve shape
  • Breast Lift — may be considered where there is skin laxity or breast descent
  • Combination (Implants + Lift) — may be discussed in selected cases

If you're unsure which approach may be suitable, Dr Tony will guide you through these options during consultation.

Is This For You?

Who May Be Suitable for Breast Implants?

  • Are in good general health
  • Have fully developed breasts
  • Are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are considering changes to breast size, shape or symmetry

Your lifestyle, expectations and long-term goals are discussed during consultation to help determine whether this procedure is appropriate for you.

Your Options

Types of Breast Implants

Selecting the correct breast implant is a personal decision. Dr Tony will guide you based on your anatomy, preferences and treatment goals. You can also explore our guide on choosing the right implant size.

Saline Breast Implants

Filled with sterile salt water. In the rare event of rupture, the saline is safely absorbed by the body.

Silicone Breast Implants

Filled with cohesive silicone gel that feels more like natural breast tissue and maintains its shape well.

Dr Tony will guide you in choosing the best implant type, size, and profile to complement your goals.

Understanding the Procedure

Breast Implant Placement Options

The placement of your breast implants can influence both your final result and recovery. You can read more in our guide to implant placement options.

Aesthetica breast augmentation, placement of breast implants
  • Submuscular (under the muscle): Creates a more natural shape and may reduce the risk of capsular contracture
  • Subglandular (above the muscle): Offers quicker recovery and may suit those with adequate natural breast tissue
  • Dual Plane (partly under the muscle): Combines both techniques for enhanced contour and upper pole fullness — ideal for those with limited natural tissue

Dr Tony will recommend the most suitable approach based on your anatomy and desired outcome.

Your Options

Incision Techniques for Implant Insertion

There are several approaches to inserting breast implants. Each is chosen carefully to suit your needs.

  • Inframammary (under the breast fold): The most common method, allowing precise placement
  • Periareolar (around the nipple): May suit those concerned about visible scarring
  • Transaxillary (through the armpit): Avoids scarring on the breast itself

All incision options and their considerations are discussed with you during your consultation.

Recovery

Recovery After Breast Implants

Recovery is an important part of your breast augmentation journey. You can expect some swelling, tightness or mild discomfort in the first few days — these are normal and usually settle quickly.

  • Wear your post-surgical support bra as advised
  • Avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting for several weeks
  • Attend all follow-up appointments to monitor healing

Most people return to light activities within 7–14 days, with final results becoming more noticeable over the following months.

First 48 Hours Swelling, tightness and mild discomfort begin Days 7–14 Return to light activities and work Weeks 4–6 Return to strenuous activity and exercise Months 2–3 Swelling resolves, final shape and position settle

This is a general guide only. Recovery, results and timing vary between individuals — Dr Tony will provide guidance specific to your procedure and healing.

Understanding Risks & Complications

All surgical procedures carry some risk. Potential complications of breast augmentation may include:

  • Capsular contracture (scar tissue hardening)
  • Implant rupture or leakage
  • Infection
  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation

Dr Tony will discuss all possible risks and how they are managed before you decide to proceed.

Comparing Options

Breast Implants vs. Breast Lift

Breast implants are designed to increase volume and enhance shape, while a breast lift addresses breast position and skin laxity. In some cases, a combination of both procedures may be considered — discussed with you during consultation.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast implants may be considered if you're looking to increase breast volume or improve shape and symmetry. Suitability depends on your anatomy, skin quality and goals, and is determined during consultation.

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water, while silicone implants contain a cohesive gel often described as feeling more like natural breast tissue. Dr Tony will guide you on the most appropriate option for your anatomy and goals.

Choosing implant size is a personalised decision based on your body proportions, lifestyle and desired outcome. You can learn more in our guide to breast implant size.

Breast implants may be placed under the muscle, above the muscle, or using a dual plane technique. The most appropriate placement depends on your anatomy and goals. Learn more about implant placement options.

You may experience swelling, tightness or discomfort in the early stages of recovery. Most patients return to light activities within 1–2 weeks, with ongoing healing over several months.

Breast implants are not lifetime devices. While many last for many years, they may eventually need to be replaced or removed depending on individual circumstances.

In most cases, breast implants don't affect breastfeeding ability, but this can depend on implant placement and incision technique. Dr Tony will discuss this with you in detail during consultation.

All surgical procedures carry risks. These may include capsular contracture, implant rupture, infection, or changes in sensation — discussed in detail during your consultation.
