Cellulite Myths fact or fiction

Cellulite Myths – Fact or Fiction
Once you understand what causes cellulite you can then get into the nitty gritty of the  the cellulite myths – facts and fiction in reducing the appearance of cellulite.
Regular Exercise Cures Cellulite – Fiction
A regular exercise practice cannot cure cellulite however in many cases it can help prevent or reduce its appearance. Cellulite occurs when connective fibres underneath the skin become weak or lose their elasticity. Stretching and strengthening those areas (in addition to burning away excess fat overall) can help. Firming and toning those muscles will in turn tighten the skin, giving the illusion that cellulite is less noticeable. It is generally conceded that cardio is best for reducing the all-over cellulite wobble.
Running or other forms of cardio exercise can help keep weight off and in turn reduce the appearance of your dimples and dents. However, you really need to add strength training to make a difference to cellulite.
Studies have found that adults who did three 30-minute cardio workouts each week for eight weeks lost 8kgs, but gained no muscle and only slightly improved their body composition.
However, when paired with 15 minutes of aerobic activity and 15 minutes of strength training three times a week,  they lost 20kgs of fat, added 4kgs of muscle!
As a result they saw a greater overall improvement in body composition. In other words, they looked better in their skin and lost some of the wiggle!
Skin-firming Creams Can Cure Cellulite – Fiction
Despite what you might read on their labels, no topical creams (prescription or over-the-counter) have been shown to permanently reduce the appearance of cellulite. Studies have found, however, that products containing retinoids may provide some temporary effects by creating a thicker skin cover that can help camouflage bumps.
There is limited evidence that creams or scrubs with stimulant ingredients, like caffeine, ginger and green or black tea, may also help by improving circulation and breaking down fat-cell stores, but they are less proven. They may work in weight loss or body contouring but that is not the same as a solution for getting rid of cellulite.
Skin Fillers Can Even Out Dimply Skin – Fact
Crazy as it sounds it can work because injectable dermal fillers are used primarily to create volume. Whether it be on your face or your buttocks it can also be used to get rid of cellulite, at least temporarily. Whilst this solutions seems like a great idea it could be cost prohibitive with the results only lasting months.
Non-invasive Procedures for Cellulite Really Do Work – Fact
Laser, radio-frequency, and massage techniques have been used for several years to reduce the appearance of cellulite. While some of their results are not permanent, they can be effective in the short-term.
If you are considering this method ensure the equipment has FDA or TGA approval. This ensures research and development will match the claims they are making. They will generally offer a course of treatments and with lifestyle changes you will only require minimal maintenance treatments.
Liposuction Will Improve The Appearance of Your Cellulite – Fiction
If cellulite is your problem, liposuction should not be your solution. In fact, in some instances liposuction can even make your cellulite look worse.
Vacuuming or Rollering The Skin Removes Cellulite – Fiction
Vacuum-like treatments, have been shown to help the appearance of cellulite. During these treatments a technician runs a suctioning device surrounded by rollers over a patient’s skin, pulling and squeezing trouble spots for about 30 minutes. However. Once you stop these treatments the skin goes back to how it was making this solution good for a special night or event only.
Diet and Lots of Water Can Help Fight Cellulite – Fact
Your diet alone cannot determine whether you will or will not get cellulite, however eating a well-balanced, plant-heavy, anti inflammatory diet can reduce inflammation throughout your body and in turn help you maintain a healthy weight. Staying hydrated by drinking water and eating plenty of foods with high water content will also keep your connective tissue strong and supple, and may even help you slim down.
An anti inflammatory diet can include cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes, and bell peppers, which (along with many other fruits and veggies) are all more than 90% water.
Only a Dermatologist Should Perform Cellulite Treatments – Fiction
A cosmetic surgery skin clinic is a good place to start, as they will have more options than most doctors or beauty salons.
The clothing you wear can make an impact on cellulite reduction – Fiction
Yes, wearing compression-style leggings while you exercise can reduce thigh jiggle, but that has no effect on your cellulite. For any clothing that claims to actually have lasting results, it is just a marketing gimmick and simply not true. In fact, for some tight clothes, the opposite may be true. Elastic bands on underwear, for example, can actually contribute to the appearance of cellulite if they cut off circulation and limit blood flow.
Smoking Can Affect The Appearance of Cellulite – Fact
Apart from being really bad for your health, cigarette smoke has been shown to affect your health. It reduces blood vessel flow and weakens and disrupts the formation of collagen. When this happens connective tissue becomes stretched and damaged which makes it easier to see the underlying fat. Plus, smoking can make you look bad (literally) in lots of other ways, as well: it causes premature wrinkles and ageing, leaves skin dry and discoloured and can contribute to stretch marks, to name a few.
There is No Permanent Cellulite Solution – Fact and Fiction
This one’s not exactly true or false. Scientists do seem to be getting better and better at finding long-term solutions for treating trouble spots.
Your Hormones Affect Cellulite – Fact
Hormones definitely seem to play a role in the appearance of cellulite. As women age, their bodies produce less oestrogen—a hormone that helps keep blood vessels flowing smoothly. Less oestrogen can mean poorer circulation. This can also mean a decrease in new collagen production and the breakdown of older connective tissue.
There’s no one true tried remedy to solve the problem of cellulite. But with a mix of healthy eating, lots of water, exercise and the right skin clinic treatment, you will go a long way to improving the appearance of your trouble spots.
